January 2009 one of our customers decided to start using Software Recognition Service. The company has over 8000 computers on multiple locations in Sweden. That many computers and users generates tens of thousands of inventoried applications.
Instead of spending time on analysing inventoried applications and identifying relevant applications, such as applications requiring licensing or unwanted software, they wanted to focus on actual software asset management work.
From day one using SRS over 95% of the company's applications where identified and visible in their SAM web portal.
The remaining 5% was automatically sent to SRS Service desk who identified the applications within three weeks. Among the unidentified 5% were several older versions of applications already available in the software repository, such as WordPerfect 6 which was released in 1996.
After the initial identification Software Recognition Service continually identifies new applications in their IT environment.
