06. Can I delete computers from Snow License Manager?

ANSWER: Yes, you can delete all machines currently in License Manager using one of the three methods described below.

a) Manual removal
Remove computers by clicking on Computers in the menu on the top of the screen, then List all computers in the left hand menu.

The first column you see is a checkbox where you select one or more computers. If you click the checkbox in the column header you will select all the computers (you need to click the All button on the bottom of the list if you want to see all computers at once, otherwise the list is divided into pages). When you have selected all the computers you can click Edit computers in the menu to the left, and then click Delete at the bottom of the page.

Then the computers are deleted from License Manager and will be deleted from Snow Inventory once the License Manager Data Update SQL job has been executed.

The applications from those computers will the not show up in License Manager, unless you have added licenses for them. Then you will see the number of licenses, but the installations/balance value will be 0.

The applications will show up again once the computers has been inventoried again and reported to Snow Inventory and the License Manager Data Update job has been executed so that all the inventoried files are processed and filtered into the correct applications.

b) Archiving computers
When you archive a computer you save a snapshot of the computer before removing it. After the snapshot is saved the computer is automatically removed from the system. You can access the snapshots using the computer report Archived computers. Since an archived computer is deleted, it releases all licenses currently attached to it. Archived computers cannot be restored.

Archive a computer by navigating to the detail view or selecting it the list and clicking Archive Computer on the left hand menu.

c) Automatic Quarantine and removal management
You can set up an automatic process for removing unused computers in your IT environment. When a computer has not reported in any new inventory data for a specified amount of time it is placed in Quarantine (automatic life cycle management) and will still require licenses for its installed applications. When a computer has been in Quarantine mode for another specified amount of time without sending in any new inventory data it will then be removed from the system and thereby releasing all its licenses.

Enable Automatic Quarantine management in Snow License Manager Administration Tool under the Systems tab and then clicking System settings. There you can activate quarantine management, adjust the time frames and enable or disable the actual removal. You can also disable the automatic quarantine management for specific computers in Snow License Manager Web.
